The recording was rough and ready, beset with technical problems, but the atmosphere was great and we thing it makes stimulating listening. So read part of the sleeve notes to Mungo Jerry's second No. 1 maxi-single "Baby Jump" in 1971. The notes were concerned with the B-side, "Live From Hollywood" , where it first happened for Mungo Jerry. But they could describe any Mungo Jerry disc from then to the present day. You could omit the word technical and insert contractual, managerial, personnel, or whatever. Over 20 years Mungo Jerry have had a lot, but founder member and main inspiration Ray Dorset has still been able to come up with his wide gap-toothed smile and say, "I'll never sell my soul for rock 'n' roll."
